HBO Picks Up Martin Scorsese and Mick Jagger's Rock n' Roll TV Series

JamesArthurArmstrong JamesArthurArmstrong With the culmination of Boardwalk Empire this year, HBO started looking for another project and they seem to have found another Martin Scorsese/Terence Winter project for us to sink our teeth into. It's about rock n' roll and has Mick Jagger serving as a producer.

Deadline first broke the news regarding this new HBO drama series. Writer Terence Winter created the show and will have Scorsese direct the pilot, who will then continue on as an executive producer for the remainder of the series. That's the same deal that happened regarding Boardwalk Empire. Only this time around, Winter wrote the pilot script with George Mastras and will serve as show runner.

Bobby Cannavale— who starred in Boardwalk Empire— will lead the series, alongside Olivia Wilde, Ray Romano, and Juno Temple.

This rock n’ roll series has been in development for around four years, but has taken longer to reach this point due to Scorsese’s busy schedule and Winter’s commitment to Boardwalk Empire.

A brief synopsis of the show reads like this; set in 1970s New York, the untitled hourlong series will dive into the heady world of sex, drugs, and rock ‘n’ roll. The punk and disco scenes are emerging as record exec Richie Finestra (Cannavale) searches for the next big thing to help him resurrect his label.

There’s no official date for when this new HBO drama will air, but considering it’s only just been picked, it's likely to be around late 2015 or 2016.
