Inside Out Wins Best Animated Feature at 2016 Annie Awards

JamesArthurArmstrong JamesArthurArmstrong Pixar's 'Inside Out' won Best Animated Feature at the 43rd Annie Awards, adding to its previous wins at the Golden Globes and PGA Awards.

This latest win for the Pixar film, which has taken $856.8 million worldwide, puts it in pole position to nab the Oscar for Best Animated picture later this month.

"Sorry if you guys are sick of seeing us up here," director Pete Doctor said when receiving the honour. Doctor had earlier won in the night for Best Writing and Directing.

The Annie Awards was a clean sweep for 'Inside Out' as it beat-out other Oscar contender in 'Anomalisa.' The other Oscar contenders 'Boy and the World' and Studio Ghibi's 'When Marnie Was There' were both up for the Best Animated Feature - Independent, which was awarded to 'Boy and the World.'

The big winner at the Annie Awards tends to go on to win the Oscar, with 2015 being a rare exception. Nine of the last 14 Annie winners have landed Oscar gold. Last year, 'How to Train Your Dragon 2' won the Annie but was upset by 'Big Hero 6' when the Oscars swung into town. However, this years Oscar gong seems to be heading in the direction of 'Inside Out.'
