Kevin Feige Says Marvel Cinematic Universe Will Not Take "Dark Turn"

JamesArthurArmstrong JamesArthurArmstrong With Avengers: Age of Ultron taking big money at the worldwide box office, fans are wondering if Marvel's Cinematic Universe will ever take a "dark turn."

With the Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice trailer recently being unveiled and displaying a dark aesthetic for a comic book movie, and Marvel themselves releasing their TV series, Daredevil, which boasts a dark feel and is clearly aimed at more adult audiences — could Marvel be tempted to twist their cinematic universe in a more macabre fashion?

According to Marvel Studios president, Kevin Feige, it will never be considered. Feige recently answered questions on Reddit about the possibility. Here is a summary of what Feige said:

There is no dark turn in the MCU. He says every year fans come up to him and ask him if this movie is when the MCU goes "dark" or takes a "dark" turn. He said while the trailers may seem ominous or have a sense of impending doom, the movies do not have that feel, and will not. He said he "Hoped people would catch on by now" - there will be no giant dark turns in the MCU where it then continues to head in that direction. The humor is in the DNA of the movies, there are no plans to change that.

It comes as no surprise what Feige said. You have to look at the box office and merchandise figures from all the previous Marvel movies: If it ain't broke, why try and fix it? Audiences are still responding very positivly to these movies, so changing gear and heading down a more gritty route would be a strange avenue to steer the rest of the MCU down.
