My Name is Hmmm... has a visual bite but a whimpering narrative
My Name is Hmmm... is the debut movie from clothes designer Agnes B.
The movie follows Celine as she escapes an abusive mother and absent father by smuggling herself abroad in the cabin of an international freight truck. The truck driver creates an unlikely bond with the eleven year old Celine as they travel across the country. The reasons for their mutual need of each other becomes more clear as suspicion of kidnapping heats up.
My Name is Hmmm... is a fairly charming and somewhat visually inventive but it doesn’t feature the same bite that Anges B. most likely intended it to poses. Theres a sense of naivety brewing over its narrative, with it fundamentally lacking in dramatic value. My Name is Hmmm features many nods to French new-wave director Jean Luc Godard that comes across unnecessary and unfitting.
