Netflix to Release Ricky Gervais' 'Special Correspondents' in 2016

JamesArthurArmstrong JamesArthurArmstrong Netflix will debut Ricky Gervais’ satire 'Special Correspondents,' starring Gervais and Eric Bana, worldwide next year.

Regarding the purchase by Netflix, Gervais said, “Having shaken up the TV industry, Netflix is about to do the same to Hollywood. It’s great to be part of the changing future. Ted Sarandos is the new Godfather of entertainment and he made me an offer I couldn’t refuse.”

The film is a co-production between Bron Studios and Unanimous Entertainment. Gervais, Unanimous’ Chris Coen, Bron’s Aaron L. Gilbert, Manuel Munz and Larry Sanitsky will produce, with Gervaisdirecting from his own script.

This deal with Gervais carries on from a flurry of recent transactions by Netflix, who paid nearly $12 million for the worldwide rights to Cary Fukunaga's (True Detective) African war drama 'Beasts of No Nation, which stars Idris Elba. Back in March, Netflix and Leonardo Di Caprio announced their partnering on documentary and docu-series projects as part of a multi-year, first-look deal for non-fiction projects premiering exclusively on the streaming device.
