Richard Linklater's 'Everybody Wants Some' Rocks SXSW During Its Premiere
Oscar-nominated director Richard Linklater (Boyhood) premiered his latest film 'Everybody Wants Some' at the Texas based film festival SXSW last night to a raucous attending audience at the Paramount Theatre in Austin.
During its screening, the audience were reported as laughing and hooting as the they sipped beer throughout Linklater's new comedy, which is being promoted as a spiritual sequel to his classic 'Dazed and Confused.'
The film is centred around a 1980 college baseball team and was introduced to the audience by festival director Janet Pierson who reminded the audience of Linklater's Texas roots. The film walks to a screwball beat and Linklater set the evenings tone by pretending that President Barack Obama (who had given a SXSW keynote speech earlier in the day) had planned on attending the screening. Then, on a projector screen, revealed a handwritten note supposedly from Obama, which read — "I had a blast in 1980! Rock on."
During the premieres after party, Linklater tried to keep up the joke that the note was written by the President, claiming "it was real," before finally admitting "it was a joke." He had hoped Obama may have attended the screening but soon realised that for security reasons it simply wasn't possible.
'Everybody Wants Some' will open in theatres on April 1, 2016.
