'Straight Outta Compton' Wins at BET Awards; Taraji P. Henson Makes Trump Statement
Last night at the 2016 BET Awards, 'Straight Outta Compton' took home Best Movie in an entertaining evening that saw a touching tribute to Prince and a great opening performance from Beyonce and Kendrick Lamar.
The BET Awards celebrates the best of African Americans and other minorities in film, acting, music, sports, and other fields of entertainment over the past year.
In the other movie and acting categories, Michael B. Jordan took home Best Actor for his turn in 'Creed' while Taraji P. Henson took home Best Actress for her performance in Fox's drama 'Empire'. Whilst giving her acceptance speech, Henson urged viewers to take the prospect of a Donald Trump presidency seriously. The 'Empire' star said, “I’m really not political, but it’s serious out here.” She then referenced Trump, though not by name: “For those who think he’s not going to win, think again. We really need to pull together and turn this country around.”
