The Academy Invites Oscar Winners Eddie Redmayne and J.K. Simmons to Join Academy

JamesArthurArmstrong JamesArthurArmstrong The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is extending invitations to join the organisation to 322 artists and executives who have distinguished themselves by their contributions to theatrical motion pictures. Those who accept the invitations will be the only additions to the Academy in 2015.

"It’s gratifying to acknowledge the extraordinary range of talent in our industry,” said Academy President Cheryl Boone Isaacs. “This year, our branches have recognised a more diverse and inclusive list of filmmakers and artists than ever before, and we look forward to adding their creativity, ideas and experience to our organisation.”

Below is a list of the actors who have been invited:

Elizabeth Banks, Choi Min-sik, Benedict Cumberbatch, Martin Freeman, Heather GrahaM, Tom Hardy, Kevin Hart, Felicity Jones, Stephen Lang, Jodi Long, John Carroll Lynch, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Michael O’Neill, David Oyelowo, Dev Patel, Rosamund Pike, Chris Pine, Daniel Radcliffe, Eddie Redmayne, Jason Segel, J.K. Simmons, Sonny Skyhawk, Song Kang-ho, and Emma Stone.

It's always fun to see who isn't a member of the Academy already, and judging by that list, there is a lot of big names stars who aren't. It's also worth nothing that directors James Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy), Justin Lin (Fast and Furious 6) and Damien Chazelle (Whiplash), along with other directors, have all received invitations to join the Academy.
