
'The Grand Budapest Hotel' and 'The Imitation Game' Take Prizes at the WGA Awards
Wes Anderson’s quirky, eccentric and humorous script for The Grand Budapest Hotel won the Writers Guild of America award for Best Original Screenplay, while Graham Moore’s script for thriller The Imitation Game won for Best Adapted Screenplay.
In his acceptance speech, Moore said "Alan Turing is the person for who we made this film, it is on the shoulders of his genius that we made this film.” The Imitation Game beat out American Sniper, Gone Girl, Guardians of the Galaxy and Wild. It is also up for Best Adapted Screenplay at the upcoming Academy Awards.
Anderson was on hand to accept his award for Best Original Screenplay as his movie The Grand Budapest Hotel won over original stories such as Boyhood, Foxcatcher, Nightcrawler and Whiplash. Much like Moore and The Imitation Game, Anderson is also up for Best Original Screenplay at the Oscars later this month.
True Detective and Louie walked away with the writing awards for television. True Detective won the drama series award and new series award with both trophies going to scribe Nic Pizzolatto. “This is incredibly generous of you” a deeply moved Pizzolatto said in his acceptance speech.
Louie won the comedy series and the comedy episode awards. Pamela Adlon and Louis C.K. won the series award and Louis C.K. also won the episode trophy for the “So Did the Fat Lady” segment.
The Internet’s Own Boy: The Story of Aaron Swartz took the documentary award for best script by Brian Knappenberger, the animation award went to Brian Kelley for the “Brick Like Me” segment in The Simpsons, Last Week Tonight With John Oliver won the best comedy/variety category, The Good Wife won the first award for drama series episode for the script "The Last Call," best video-game went to The Last of Us: Left Behind written by Neil Druckmann and Deliverance Creek written by Melissa Carter won best long form original.
