Top three comic book films of 2016
With 2017 knocking on our doorsteps, I wanted to look back on my pick for the top three comic book movies of 2016. With the superhero genre growing stronger and stronger with each year, I wanted to look back at the ones that make all of our inner child jump for joy and forget all the horrible comic books movies from the past and preset. So to kick things off lets begin with NO. 3: ''Capitan America: Civil War'' With the third installment in the Capitan America franchise, we finally get our first look at the massive ensemble of Marvel's most iconic lineup to date. With the introduction of Black Panther, Baron Zemo and of course Spider-Man's re introduction. Lets not forget to mention the airport fight sequence! One of the best fight scenes in Comic Book movie history. No. 2: ''Deadpool'' Deadpool is a movie that all comic book fans have been wishing they would see before they die. The most accurate comic book movie in every way, shape & form, we are happy that this movie took so long to grace the big screen. With the first rated R movie from a Marvel movie, we couldn't get enough of the Merc with the mouth. Ryan Reynolds was born to play this role! This movie had me laughing from opening to the ending credits. We are all waiting in anticipation for the sequel to grace the silver screen and to gives us more random acts of violence and tacos. No. 1: ''Dr. Strange" Marvel does no wrong when introducing us to their large rolodex of characters. Dr. Strange is a great example of how amazing and unique the Marvel story telling is becoming. This movie gave us Marvels best visual experience to date, with the use of not just all the characters in play but how they utilize their surroundings as weapons themselves. Marvel keeps on setting the bar with each passing year. I can't wait to see Dr. Strange in this years Infinity Wars.
Honorable Mentions
Rouge One: A Star Wars Story: Now I know that this is not a comic book movie, but it should to mentioned. This movie put some wonderful context into how it effects the future and past of the Star Wars movie that we all grew up loving. It is one of my favorite Star Wars movie to date, namely because of the mass amounts of scarface the team made in order to bring piece and end the Dark Sides rain. Suicide Squad: I had high hopes for this movie when the amazing trailer was released. There were good things to take away from DC's growing universe. Harley Quinn was spot on, in the way that she couldn't get enough of her soul mate the clown prince Joker. Will Smith and Harley did steal this movie in my opinion. They did miss the opportunity in diverting great DC characters. Killer Croc was not handled correctly as was the Joker. But yet again, much of this movie was left out in the cutting room floor. So we will never truly see what Jared Leto truly brought to this iconic role. DC movies are progressively getting better and with Wonder Women next on the list, I am hoping that can find their voice again.
